University Relations

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) presently recruits and hires from dozens of universities across the United States through its Technology Directorates (TDs).  Workforce data shows that over half of AFRL's new hires graduated from universities local to Air Force Base sites.

As a prestigious and national research institution, AFRL is able to fully capitalize on its reputation and strengths to conduct a robust and sustainable campus outreach program to reach the best and brightest from top ranked science and engineering schools across the country.  A career at AFRL offers many attributes desired by college graduates, including stimulating work, opportunities for advancement, excellent work/life balance, service to the nation, and job security.

To capitalize on these benefits and attract top technical talent , AFRL recognized the need for a coordinated, enterprise-wide strategy.  This "University Relations initiative" represents AFRL's strategy to address hiring needs across the organization.  Together with a well-coordinated recruiting program, leveraging student and professional internship, scholarship, and fellowship programs, AFRL's University Relations seeks to attract, acquire, and retain America's best and brightest for our nation's defense.  Our mission is to maintain a strong, intellectual Science & Technology workforce for a world class Research Laboratory that leads the discovery, development, and delivery of advanced technologies for a current and future Air Force that is revolutionary, relevant, and responsive.
